Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Any Resolution Must Be Much More Than Just A Wish

Many New Year resolutions are things people want to stop doing, or do less of, rather than things they want to do. You're more likely to succeed if you focus on doing rather than not doing. For example, if you want to lose weight and know you waste too much time watching TV, instead of resolving to spend less time watching TV, make your resolution to spend more time exercising.

For any resolution to succeed it needs to be much more than a wish or a whim – it takes commitment. You need to be determined to succeed and be prepared to put in the effort. Be realistic and honest with yourself. If you want to do something that you've resolved to do for the last two or three years and haven't achieved, why should you achieve it now? That's not to say you can't, but to be successful this time it will take serious commitment and action on your part and you'll have to do things you haven't done up until now.

To be continued….

'Youth is when you're allowed to stay up late on New Year's Eve. Middle age is when you're forced to.' - Bill Vaughan
