Optimism and Self Improvement

There never seems to be enough people around full of genuine enthusiasm and optimism.

Think about what it’s like when you meet a truly enthusiastic person, full of live and positive about everything. It’s so easy to get swept up in their enthusiasm and find that (sometimes even despite how you were feeling) you can’t help but feel more alive, inspired and motivated.

Optimism and enthusiasm are infectious, and we all know some people that are so full of it they seem set to explode. They just seem to be so full of life and the joys of spring and able to see the best in everything.

This is how most of us naturally were as children. However, growing up and the influence of parents, schools, and society almost inevitably inhibit and stifle optimism and enthusiasm. We are forced to face responsibilities, and the setbacks we encounter in life can easily allow cynicism and negative thinking to replace the optimism we are born with.

Many of the most successful people in the world are full of optimism and enthusiasm. They are always making plans and coming up with new ideas. Enthusiastic and optimistic people are also usually good at motivating others and getting results. They are not scared to try new things and blaze trails. They are usually action orientated and make things happens.

This doesn’t mean that everything they try works, but nor does it mean that they are just unrealistic dreamers with their heads in the clouds. (If you want to see a great example of that sort of blind optimism, check out “Candide” by Voltaire, one of the most entertaining satirical books ever written.) An optimist generally isn't a person who never considers failure to be a possibility.

An optimist is a someone who realises that things could go wrong and tries anyway – aware that if things do go wrong there will be lessons learnt which they can use in the future to help them reach their ultimate goals. They usually have the ability to quickly learn for mistakes and setbacks, and consider obstacles as nothing more than challenges to be overcome.

It has been said that an alarmingly high percentage – an incredible 95%! – of all people lean towards negative thinking.

Deciding to develop a positive and optimistic mental attitude is one of the most important decisions we can ever make, and anyone can do it.

It may sound easier said than done, but it really is a choice. Despite what is going on in our lives, we can choose to look for the positives and make the best of anything that happens to us and actively work at being optimistic.

Avoid negative people who can drag you down. Try reading inspirational stories of outstanding human achievement, or biographies of successful people. There are also many self improvement resources that can make a dramatic difference.

Expect the best to happen and only think about and visualise what you want, not what you don’t want. Believe in yourself and the power of your mind and the power of the universe to help you. If you find yourself thinking negatively, force yourself to change your thoughts until optimism becomes a habit.

It will be well worth the effort. It will make you happier and change your whole life, how you look at the world and how the world looks at and reacts to you.

Self Improvement Tips Quote of the Day:

”You can do anything you think you can. This knowledge is literally the gift of the gods, for through it you can solve every human problem. It should make of you an incurable optimist. It is the open door.” -Robert Collier
