Wattles 'The Science of Getting Rich'are just as valid today as when they were first published decades ago. (Both of these and many more are included in the outstanding collection of books I've put together which you can find here).

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Learn From People Who've Been There

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Learn From People Who've Been There

Whatever you want to achieve in life it's almost certain that someone will have already done something very similar, if not identical. What's more, someone will almost certainly have written about what they had to do and the steps they had to take to achieve their goals. You can save yourself weeks, months, even years of hard work by reading and studying what has already been done by other people. Even if what you are trying to achieve is not identical, you will certainly gain invaluable insights you can use.

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: We Also Need To Know How

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: We Also Need To Know How

Whilst reading about highly successful people, or people who've done exceptional things, shows us there are no limits to what is possible, they usually don't get into the nitty gritty details and explain how we too can do exceptional things or become highly successful. These stories are highly inspirational and It's fantastic to know that the seemingly impossible is possible, but that alone may not be enough.

Most of us need to know the 'how' as well to change our own lives.

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Leaders Are Readers

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Leaders Are Readers

Each day in the U.S., people spend an average 4 hours watching TV, 3 hours listening to the radio and 14 minutes reading magazines.

It is very often the case that if you enter the home of a successful man, you will be impressed by the size of their library. However, if you enter the home of a man who is just about getting by, or having trouble making ends meet, the first thing you are likely to notice is how big his TV is.

They may sound like tired clichés, but ‘leaders are readers’ and ‘to earn more, learn more’ are more valid today as ever. It also a safe bet that CEO's and other high achievers aren't just reading books about business skills. Much of their reading matters is likely to be motivational and in the area of personal development.

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Learning and Earning

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Learning and Earning

Research has shown that people's earnings are in direct proportion to the size of their vocabularies.

The CEO of a U.S fortune 500 company will usually earn well over 500 times more than the average employee. This means that the average employee has to work for more than a year and a half to earn what the CEO earns in one day!

The average U.S. CEO reads 4-5 books per month.

This doesn't prove that reading alone is the main difference between a CEO and an employee, but the figures are dramatic enough to indicate that it must be a significant correlation between success and reading.

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Empathy Builds Trust

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Empathy Builds Trust

Most of us aren't lucky enough to be born with highly developed empathy for others. Many people never even think about it, but most of us do respond positively to someone who seems to be genuinely interested in us and understands how we feel.

Anyone who makes the effort to try to understand others better will improve their communication skills and inspire trust and confidence in everyone they interact with. It is also highly likely they will notice positive improvements in all their relationship with people.

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Offer Encouragement and Support

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Offer Encouragement and Support

Always try to encourage others, particularly those people who are quite and lack confidence, and always give genuine praise and recognition when it's due. A few well chosen words can do wonders for confidence and self esteem and make people feel they are making a worthwhile contribution,

One common mistake that many bosses make is spending too much time trying to catch people doing things wrong and then reprimanding or punishing them. This is usually bosses who aren't good at managing and empowering people or delegating. One of the best things than any boss can do is to actively try to catch people doing things right and then give credit or offer encouragement for a job well done.

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Pay Attention!

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Pay Attention!

Practice using other people's names. It's been said that your own name is what you like to hear more than anything else, so try to use other peoples' name more when communicating with them. When appropriate, find out people's spouses and children's names and ask after them by name. Take a personal interest in people what they do in their time away from the office, their hobbies and interests, their goals and aspirations for the future.

Give people your full attention. Whether dealing with your boss or a subordinate, resist the temptation to check your emails, takes phone calls or be looking over their shoulder to see what else is going on. Most people don’t like this happening to them. If you make a point of giving people your full attention you are showing them you are interested in them and they will appreciate it.
