Self Improvement Tip of the Day: How Our Past Can Help Us

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: How Our Past Can Help Us

Our life experiences can be one of the greatest of all motivators.

Determination to improve their lives and overcome their past drives many people to great success and rewarding, happy lives. However, for some people, their past can be the greatest obstacles to a happy and successful life, often even without them being aware of it.

We can't deny our past, and the actions we've taken and the decisions we've made are the reason that we are where we are today.

Sure, things can happen that are beyond our control that can throw us off track. It can be easy to blame events, circumstances and other people. But it's not the things that happen to us that are important – what really matters is how we respond and react to what happens to us.

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Successful People Know Where They Are Going

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Successful People Know Where They Are Going

But how do successful people respond to the question of how their lives will be in ten years?

Most successful people will be able to answer this question without even having to think about it. Because they've already spent time thinking about and planning where they want to be. They've worked out what's most important to them and they've set goals and made plans for their achievement. And, critically, they are taking action, usually massive action, to make sure it happens!

If you need help thinking about the next ten years, considering the other questions mentioned earlier about the past should help.

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: One of the Most Important Questions to Ask Yourself

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: One of the Most Important Questions to Ask Yourself

Have you ever stopped and asked yourself this question:

How will my life be ten years from now?

Depending on your age now, ten years may seem like a long way off, perhaps even too far off to think about. For others it certainly won't.

Particularly if you fall into the latter camp, you may find it useful to try it in reverse - how is you life now compared to ten years ago?

Are you comfortable with where you are now?

Have you made genuine progress?

Have you achieved your goals?

What have you done that you are proud of?

Are you confidently looking forward to the future?

Are you happy? Disappointed? Complacent?

Perhaps you haven't even thought about it before - has the last ten years gone by without you even really noticing?

Are you in the same place? Is your life almost identical?

Have you gone backwards? It can happen all too easily and totally unexpectedly. Things can happen that we have little or no control over.

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Small Changes Can Make A Big Difference

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Small Changes Can Make A Big Difference

There's an ever increasing number of people shunning newspapers and TV news due to it being so depressing. It's often been said that no news is good news. Let's face it, how much of the news that is printed or broadcast is negative? Sadly, most of it. It's difficult to remain positive in such an onslaught of negativity, so more and more people aren't bothering. Sure, we do need to stay informed, but surely we'd all be more positive and have more energy if we started each day reading or watching something inspirational rather then something depressing?

Having enough energy to meet the demands of our busy lives can sometimes be tough. However, small changes can make a big difference. A bit more physical activity and thinking about your diet will definitely help, so will trying to be more calm and less emotional. Avoiding negative people and influences and being more positive and optimistic generally will not only increase your energy, improve your health and reduce stress, but you'll also enjoy life much more.

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Who Is Influencing You?

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Who Is Influencing You?

Most of us know someone, or even a number of people, who are naturally negative. There's certainly no shortage of people proud to call themselves cynics, who seem to enjoy being critical and looking for the worst in everything. Some of these peoples can be entertaining and can even be fun to spend some time with. In my experience, this is usually because of being amused and laughing at them and their opinions, rather than with them. But are these healthy relationships in the long term?

Our friends and the company we keep can have a strong impact on the way we think and feel, even without us being aware of it. Take time to think about the people you spend time with – do they lift you up and make you feel more energised, or drag you down and sap your strength? If you minimise the time you spend with negative people you'll not only have more energy, but you have a more positive outlook on life generally.

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: A Positive Outlook Will Increase Your Energy

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: A Positive Outlook Will Increase Your Energy

You'll automatically have more energy if you maintain a positive outlook and confidently expect the best at all time. You get what you think about and if you keep thinking about what you don't want all, you're doing is making it happen. Thinking about what you do want, focusing on it and believing it will happen is the best way to bring about anything.

Look for the best in every situation. Remember, every cloud does have a silver lining. You can find something positive any situation if you actively look for it.

If you just think about the negatives you can be sure that it will sap your strength. Think 'challenges' rather than 'problems', and focus on finding solutions, rather than the issue itself. It will get you thinking it the right direction and fire up your imagination and creativity rather than draining your energy.
